Call for Proposal Presentation for EDCTP and Africa CDC Health Funding: The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC) hereby launches the 2020 call for proposals with a total call budget of EUR 5,000,000. The funding is to help establish an African cohort of epidemiologists by supporting and strengthening educational and research institutions in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe that is involved in the provision of master’s degree training in the field of epidemiology and Biostatistics, being an aspect of the Africa CDC’s strategic framework for the development of the public health workforce.
Proposals can be submitted by a single institution or consortium of institutions which provide Master’s training in epidemiology for 10 to 15 excellent, early-to mid-career researchers working in a relevant field in sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility to Submit Proposal:
Proposals should be submitted by institutions possessing verifiable track record in the provision of high-quality master’s training with clear local and regional collaborations with NPHIs or similar agencies, Ministries of Health and other academic institutions.
The eligible proposal/application must:
- Contain contents that corresponds wholly or in part to the topic/contest description for which it is submitted.
- Comply with the eligibility conditions for participation set out below, depending on the type of action:
The application must have at least one legal entity established in a Participating State or a sub-Saharan African country.
The maximum duration of the grant is 36 months.
The maximum duration of the master’s programme is 30 months (including research component)
The requested EDCTP contribution per action should not exceed EUR 50,000 per student, with a maximum total budget of EUR 750,000.
Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Sub-Saharan African countries are Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Eswatini, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Institutions submitting proposals must ensure that if they are successful, the EPI fellows selected will commit to remain in Africa after completing their studies.
The collaboration is targeted ultimately to boost institutional research capacity and also help to create a critical mass of epidemiologist and biostatisticians who can collectively carry out routine surveillance, public health research and support timely response to outbreak of diseases in Africa such as the current pandemic of corona virus disease (COVID-19).
